The most important part of the glass shades is a mini-projector that uses a semi-transparent prism to project the computer image directly onto your retina. Despite being super close to your peepers, the image is bright  & clear ,and because the image is slightly transparent, you can comfortably place it right in front of your eyes. So while there are still some challenges for Google to cater the glasses to people who wear prescription lenses, there's no trickery involved - just simple science.
